Come See The Body Positive Film, Embrace, With Me!

Body positivity, body acceptance, self-love: These are topics that are woven into my work as a non-diet Registered Dietitian every day.  Whether you are working with me to get off of the vicious cycle of dieting (yes, there is an alternative to restriction and its buddy, self-loathing), or you are working with me to heal your digestive issues related Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) or Celiac Disease, we will most likely discuss your relationship with food and your body.  Let’s face it, as women, body issues weave themselves into every facet of our lives.

The dieting epidemic has caused women to believe that they need to be smaller/have a J.Lo booty/have big breasts that defy gravity/be devoid of stretch marks, wrinkles, and cellulite/<<insert your body rule here>> in order to be worthy of love and acceptance.

That sh*t just ain’t true! And I’m not the only one who thinks so…

Embrace is told from the point of view of Taryn Brumfitt, an Australian, former fitness competitor, and mother of three, as she travels the world talking to women, celebrities, experts, and well-known personalities about the alarming rates of body image issues that are seen in people of all body types. She interviews Ricki Lake, Mia Freedman, and Linda Bacon (the author of Health at Every Size), to name a few.  Taryn is the woman behind this viral post from 2013:

I saw this film a few months ago and thought it was incredible!  It brought to light so many of the issues women face, from fat stigmatization and eating disorders to the objectification of girls and women in the media.  It’s a film you must see!

That is why I am co-sponsoring a screening in my area on Thursday, February 16th at 6:00 pm, followed by a panel-led discussion with the audience.  Entrance to this event is free and seats are on a first come, first served basis.
