A Protein Smoothie Recipe That Packs A Punch!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of AllWhites Egg Whites. All opinions are 100% mine. protein smoothie recipe all whites Beth Rosen, RD

As a Registered Dietitian, my clients and friends often ask for my opinion about protein shakes. There are so many pre-packaged, ready-to-drink products, and an overwhelming number of protein powders, that it can be confusing to consumers. My frequent response is this: Choose the protein source with the fewest ingredients, and watch out for added sugar and chemicals in your drinks and powders. The best protein sources come from real foods that naturally contain protein and are easily digestible. Protein digestibility is rated on a scale of zero to one, one being the the best. Only a few proteins have all of the essential amino acids to create a whole protein and score a rating of one. Egg whites have achieved that score of one and are a great source of protein. But, you might say,”We are talking about protein drinks, not protein eats.” Well, this may come as news to you, but you can get the benefit of egg whites in a protein drink by using a pasteurized product like AllWhites Egg Whites! Just 1/4 cup of AllWhites 100% liquid egg whites contains 9 grams of protein; that’s more protein than in a glass of milk or a cup of yogurt! AllWhites 100% liquid egg whites are a lean source of protein and can be used in any recipe (cooked or raw) that calls for eggs. Which leads me to a recipe for a protein smoothie that packs a punch; both in protein and in flavor!

Green Glow Power Punch

Serves 2

1 cup chopped kale or baby spinach leaves (I used kale)

1 cup cucumber chunks

1 medium kiwifruit, peeled and chopped

1/2 cup AllWhites Egg Whites

1/4 cup packed fresh mint or basil (I use mint)

1/2 cup ice cubes

1/2 cup Natalie’s Award Winning Florida Orange Juice

Combine all items in a blender and put on the cover.  Blend until smooth.  Serve immediately and refrigerate the extras (if you have anything left over!)

All of the ingredients ready to be blended!

Voila!  A smoothie in less than a minute!

It’s that simple!  You don’t need a fancy blender; I don’t have one and my smoothies come out great every time.  I love the flavor of the mint, but if you don’t dream about mojitos on the beach like I do, then try the basil.  Each serving is only 110 calories and packs a punch with 9 grams of protein.  It’s the perfect pre-workout snack to fuel your fitness goals, and a great post-workout beverage to help you recover.  And because it’s fat-free, cholesterol-free and low in calories, it won’t derail your goal of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
