Upcycled Salad Dressing: Good To The Last Drop!

Have you ever come to the end of a mustard bottle, peanut butter jar, or jam container, only to have to wash out the last remnants before recycling?  Have you ever thought, “What a waste!  There is still usable food in there!”  Well, if you have, you’d be right!  The trick is to use every last tasty bit of deliciousness.  The solution is Upcycled Salad Dressing.  You read that right!  Upcycling is reusing something for another purpose.  So, upcycled salad dressing is using the last drops of your favorite spreads or condiments and turning them into a new seasoning for your next salad.  Adding just a few additional ingredients to the jar will not only release the bits from that are stuck inside, making it easy to recycle later, but turn them into flavor enhancer for your vegetables.  Here are a few ideas for you to try:

Honey Mustard Dressing

Add the oil and vinegar to the mustard container.  Close the lid and shake well for 30 seconds.  Pour over your salad and enjoy!

Asian Peanut Dressing

Makes 1/2 cup

1 empty peanut butter container

1 Tbsp warm water

2 Tbsp rice vinegar

1 tsp soy sauce

1 tsp minced cilantro

2 Tbsp orange juice

Add all ingredients to the peanut butter jar.  Close the lid and shake well for 30 seconds.  Pour over your salad and enjoy!

Now that's a tasty salad!

Now that’s a tasty salad!

If you don’t have jars of condiments that are on their way to the recycling bin, you can still make these dressings by adding a tablespoon of the condiment to the recipe and mix it in a separate container.  This is quite possibly the most fun way to make salad dressings.  Experiment with what you have on hand and be sure to let me know what upcycled salad dressing masterpiece you have created.  It is sure to be good to the last drop!
